Behold I make all things new. Rev 21:5

This year the summer’s normally gentler pace has been heated up with news of economic, political and even religious debate. So before we bustle back into a new church and school year, let’s pause and focus on the good news we can never get enough of: We live in the love of Christ. Through his grace we are saved. We are given this time on earth to praise God and serve our neighbor. In comparison all other news is just cable chatter and tabloid gossip.

Praise God for the good news that Deacon Vivian Lam is joining the St. Peter’s family on September 1. Soon to celebrate her ordination to the priesthood, Deacon Vivian will focus on faith formation as chaplain for the Day School in addition to a full range of pastoral duties. Her service with us is made possible by a support grant from the Diocese matched by the generosity of an anonymous donor.

Our Tri-Annual General Convention made news this summer. I strongly urge that you use the Summaries of General Convention Actions link to read the Convention’s statement. A great strength of our faith tradition, blessed by the blood of martyrs, is the freedom of conscience that we enjoy. So we are confident that in his time and in his way all things will work for the good. And we pray that our Church will find a healing path that will help us grow closer together in the love of Christ.

This summer I woke everyday thanking God and you for the great good news of having been called as your rector: the servant of the servants of God at St. Peter’s. As I write this I am surrounded by packing boxes and distracted by moving into a new “rectory” around the corner. Our wardens, vestry and staff have so very kind and supportive in helping us work through this transition.

So our normally sleepy summer has been filled with developments that point to an even busier fall. We have a marvelous season of renewing, rejoicing and welcoming ahead of us beginning on Sunday, September 20th for our Annual Homecoming Sunday. Join us this day as we gather for Choral Eucharist at 10:15, with Special Recognition of Day School Families and Commissioning of Day Faculty and Staff. Picnic hosted by Church and Day School immediately following.

Let’s thank God for His good news and give back to Him in joyful worship and service. As always: I thank God every time I remember you. Phil 1:3.

Yours in the love of Christ,
